Each swimmer must either be a member of USMS(18 or older) or purchase a race day membership. See registration for more information.

These fees cover safety, t-shirt, awards, dinner for you, etc. The one day USMS (18 or older) registration is required if you are not a member of United States Masters Swimming (USMS) . This membership covers insurance requirements for the race. No one will be allowed to swim without proof of membership or having payed the one day fee.
Organizers will provide 25 paddlers w/craft on a first come/first serve basis. A waitlist will exist for those wishing the event organizers to supply a paddler after the first 25 requests. Send mail to 10kinfo@horsetoothswim.com for more information.
Each swimmer must have a paddler/safety boat with them for the swim. This purpose of this boat is several fold:

The 10K event is open to all USS and USMS registered swimmers at least 18 years of age as of August 10, 2008.
Swimmers who have NOT previously completed the Horsetooth 10K Swim are required to obtain approval prior to registration from George Thorton or Joe Bakel by describing their past experience in long distance open water swimming and how they will prepare to swim 10K at approximately 5400 feet (1700 meters) in 62 to 70° F (16 to 21°C) water. We require approval for safety reasons. See the FAQ for description of the challenges of this event.

Unlike many open water events, the Horsetooth 10K Swim allows no drafting except where unavoidable (ie the start). If a flagrant drafting is observed, that swimmer will be disqualified.

Both men and women are allowed suits that can go to just above the knees (jammer style) and can cover the shoulders as long as it is not made from material that gives floatation (ie torso-type suits are legal).
Finisher certificates will be given to all finishers.
1st-3rd Male and Female will receive a Trophy
A traveling trophy, The Turner Cup, is awarded to the first man and woman finisher.
Please read the parking restrictions on maps page. Briefly, there is NO parking at the north end of the lake. Spectators are welcome to drive to the start of the 10K race (South Bay), but should not park there. If you do park there after the race start and do not buy a park pass, you will get ticketed.
Parking for all races is at Hughes stadium. Shuttle busses will take you to/from the north end. Please see the maps page for directions.
